Requirements

Competition Team members are required to participate in the full dance season August - May. This is a serious commitment that is not taken lightly. Participants are expected to fulfill this commitment. All dancers and parents will be required to sign a dancer and parent agreement. NDAOD participates in two local and one regional competition each season which are MANDATORY. Commitment to the NDAOD Competition Team goes way beyond showing up for mandatory events. It is a large time, financial, physical, emotional, and mental commitment.

Attendance
Weekly competition classes are mandatory. When it comes to school and family activities, you will find that NDAOD is very accommodating, but by accepting placement in this program, you are agreeing that Competition Team is a priority in your schedule. Missed classes for any reason other than illness or emergency must be cleared by the studio. Please email the studio office to inform of any absences at least 24 hours in advance. Dancers are allowed three excused absences per season. Absences will be recorded and all missed classes must be made up in TWO recreational classes throughout the week. Make-up classes must be a lower level than you are currently enrolled in. Example: If you take Ballet 5, you can make up class in any Ballet level 1-4.

Recreational Classes and Attendance
Recreational classes build the foundation for our competitive dancers. We expect dancers to maintain good attendance in their recreational classes to keep up with their genre-specific technique and choreography.  In order to be inclusive of all dancers at NDAOD, we ask that members of the Competition Team keep competition classes, choreography, and general competition talk separate from their recreational classes.

Class enrollment
We set a minimum number of genres to ensure that our competition dancers are well-rounded in multiple styles of dance. Two of these weekly genres must be Jazz and Ballet as they are the technical basis for all other genres.
Junior Competition Team: 3+ genres
Teen Competition Team: 3+ genres
Senior Competition Team: 4+ genres

Summer Dance
To maintain training, dancers must complete 3 hours of summer dance prior to auditions, and should they make the team, 5 more hours of summer dance completed by August Intensives. Please reach out for more information about these requirements.

Cost
The Competition Team is not only a time commitment for dancers and families, but also a financial commitment. Please reach out for information on tuition, fees, billing, etc. Please also see the Scholarships page!
