CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Baby Steps is a fun class for toddlers to dance with their grown-up friends! Tailored to the growth and development of toddlers, this class works on basic motor and locomotor movements of dance as well as balance and coordination. This is perfect for those little ones who are starting to break out their dance moves!
Girls: Any color leotard and tights, pink ballet slippers, and hair up.
Boys: Any color T-shirt and pants/shorts with black ballet slippers.
Parents/Guardians: Comfortable clothing with socks or bare feet.
Creative Movement is the perfect introduction to dance for the younger student. This class explores motor, locomotor, and fine motor movements as well as coordination, balance, rhythm, social skills, and proper classroom behavior. A fun class for students to learn independence and start dancing!
Girls: Any color leotard and tights, pink ballet slippers, and hair up.
Boys: Any color T-shirt and pants/shorts with black ballet slippers.
Pre-Ballet is a class where students learn the basic principles of dance that will benefit them in progressing in all future genres. This class begins to build on posture, turnout, quality of arms, music, and basic repertoire of movements. A class where growth of technique and a playful environment combine!
Girls: Any color leotard and tights, pink ballet slippers, and hair up.
Boys: Any color T-shirt and pants/shorts with black ballet slippers.
Pre-Ballet/Jazz develops both ballet and jazz composition all in one class. Students learn the different dynamics of the two genres and the various movement qualities that go along with them. They build strength, coordination, and vocabulary of both styles. A great class for students who are building on their technique as a dancer while exploring more than one genre.

Boys: Any color T-shirt and pants/shorts, black ballet slippers, and tan jazz shoes.
Ballet/Jazz/Tap builds further the different aspects of ballet, jazz, and tap. Movements in this class begin to really challenge the dancers and bring out their artistic side. Vocabulary is enhanced and they start focusing on some of the finer details of posture, position of arms and feet, and execution of movements. This class is wonderful for a student who likes moving with different dynamics and ready to grow as a dancer.

Ballet is characterized by light, graceful movements of effortless strength, usually accompanied by classical music. In these classes, students will learn the extensive detail behind the technique of this genre as well as many different movements and the vocabulary that goes along with them. A great base for all genres of dance!
Ballet Levels 1-2:

Boys: Any color plain t-shirt, black pants/shorts, and black ballet slippers.

Jazz is a lively dance form that compliments the sounds and rhythms of jazz and contemporary music. In these classes, students will learn the energetic, fun, and exciting movements that modern jazz dance has to offer. A fun class for the student with a little sass in their step!

Hip Hop is a popular, exciting form of street dance usually performed to hip hop music. The music is fuel for the movement and complex rhythms in this style of dance. Students learn a wide variety of styles such as breaking, locking, and popping. Great for students who like to dance with style and funk.
Hip Hop Levels 1-3:
Girls: Any color tank/t-shirt (not baggy), comfortable pants/shorts, and Black Pastry Grid Hip Hop shoe only (available at NDAOD).

Lyrical is a style of dance combining ballet and jazz together. Usually performed to music with lyrics, this genre aims to portray a story or feeling through the movements of their body. Students learn different turns, leaps, and jumps along with different qualities of movement. A wonderful class for students who want to express themselves through dance.
Lyrical Level 1:
Girls: Any color leotard, jazz pants/shorts, a half-sole shoe (Foot Undeez-style, not turners), and hair up. No crop tops, please.

Modern dance was created as a rebellion to classical ballet. Its styles are nontraditional and a more free style of dance. Students learn different qualities of dance and how their body can move and express that in their own unique style. A good class for students seeking a technical style of dance that allows more freedom.

Tap is a form of dance where special shoes equipped with taps make several different types of sounds as the dancer moves. Tap shoes are used to complement and intensify rhythms of music. The perfect genre for those who love a little Broadway flair.

Musical Theatre is a form of theatrical performance that combines dance, songs, and acting. The story and emotional content of a musical – humor, love, anger – are communicated through words, music, movement and technical aspects of the entertainment.
Girls: Any color leotard, slim-fitting shirt/tank, jazz pants/shorts, jazz shoes, and hair up. No crop tops, please.
Boys: Any color t-shirt, black pants/shorts, and jazz shoes.
Acro trains on strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, and balance for dancers to learn and execute gymnastics-based tricks commonly used in the dance world.
Girls: Any color leotard, jazz pants/shorts (optional) and hair up. Barefoot.
Boys: Any color t-shirt, black pants/shorts. Barefoot.
Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) is an innovative body-conditioning and strengthening program that has been designed to enhance students' technique by focusing on training the muscle memory required in each exercise in all forms of dance. It is a unique training system using ballet-technique specific exercises to train skill acquisition in a graded and progressive manner from junior through to advanced levels. PBT helps teachers around the world prepare their students to receive the strength they need to achieve their personal best.
The program helps with injury prevention and rehabilitation and enhances the ability of athletes to perform at their best. It can be difficult for students to feel which muscles initiate the correct alignment in training. However, with the use of an exercise ball, the students gain a great sense of posture and weight-placement whilst feeling each correct muscle group working throughout each exercise, which then stays with them when whilst performing in dance or their chosen field of sport
PBT focuses on core strength, weight placement and alignment of the body with a gradual approach of carefully designed exercises and repetitions of these exercises that trigger their muscle memory. The program is designed with safe dance methodology to promote a long, healthy career and is now being taught by over 4000+ certified teachers worldwide and over 3500 schools globally have added PBT classes in their curriculum for students.
PBT is not only a program to improve technique in ballet dancers, it is now being appreciated and incorporated in training by all forms of dancers, athletes, physiotherapists and even footballers!

Improv challenges a dancer to explore music, space, and body to create their own unique form of movement. This class encourages more focus on content than technique, and allows dancers to travel through shapes, pathways, levels, dynamics, and more. Improv can also explore and help dancers achieve a deeper understanding of concealed thoughts or feelings allowing emotional release through dance and expression.
Girls: Any color leotard, jazz pants/shorts (optional) and hair up. Barefoot, jazz, or lyrical shoes.
Boys: Any color t-shirt, black pants/shorts. Barefoot, jazz, or lyrical shoes.
Stretch aims to improve a dancer's flexibility through deep stretches and muscle release exercises.
Girls: Any color leotard, jazz pants/shorts (optional) and hair up. Barefoot, jazz, or lyrical shoes.
Boys: Any color t-shirt, black pants/shorts. Barefoot, jazz, or lyrical shoes.
Summer Primary, Intermediate, Advanced, & Master classes build on all genres and take part in specialty classes. Students must wear any color leotard and tights with hair up daily, and bring along all dance shoes they possess each day. We suggest they also bring jazz pants, shorts, t-shirts, hair accessories, etc. to dress for the style that day. The focus/genre of that day will be announced as they arrive.
