North Dakota Academy of Dance Competition Team
The Competition Team was formerly the Pre-Professional Program. After much consideration and input from instructors, dancers, and parents, we have decided to incorporate more technique, class work, and performance opportunities into this program. We hope to keep all of the same principles as the Pre-Professional Program, and push our dancers even harder to be the best they can be.
The Competition Team allows dancers extra studio time each week, focusing on technique, skills, and choreography. Dancers will also have the opportunity to work with two or more different choreographers per season (aside from their weekly recreational classes), performance opportunities in the FM area, perform and/or compete solos, duos, trios, or small group pieces, and competition opportunities. More information regarding solos, duos/trios will be given to your dancer during our August Intensive if accepted.
We are excited to be offering you the opportunity to take your dancing to the next level and perform at events in addition to the Winter and Spring Recitals. Please read through this information thoroughly and make a decision that will be best for your dancer and your family. If you have any questions regarding the Competition Team, feel free to contact Carina Schell or Ashley Hertwig-Frieler at NDAOD.
*Please note that NDAOD reserves the right to alter the number of groups and dances based on our professional judgement of the dancers’ abilities and the number of dancers that accept this invitation.
Expectations
We expect the dancers to be committed to the Competition Team and all of the hard work that will come with being a part of it. General expectations include the following:
· Arrive 15-20 minutes prior to class time to warm up and stretch – this will not be a part of class structure
· Attire: Nude tights, black leotard, hair in bun, & shoes upon instructor’s request (no exceptions!)
· Dancers are expected to arrive at each class knowing the material that was taught in previous classes, even if they were absent when new material was learned
· Competition members are expected to maintain and improve their strength and flexibility throughout the season
· Practice times are MANDATORY and all absences due to prior engagements need to be cleared by the instructor. Students are allowed 3 absences during the season.
· ALL missed practices must be made up in two classes within our regular 2020-2021 Season in a lower level genre of ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, or modern.
